The Decorative Writing Desk

If you have some empty space around your home, whether in your bedroom, living room or home office, you may want to think about purchasing a writing desk. A writing desk, though functional, is also a very decorative piece of furniture that blends in well with other furnishings. While many other types of desks are often very contemporary in design it is not unusual to find a writing desk that is decorative as well as useful, and as such is a great piece of furniture to add to any room.
The antique writings desk, or antique styled writing desks, are perhaps the most decorative in design. Frequently hand-crafted, they were made from some of the finest hardwoods and often featured carved legs as well as designs carved into the hardwood itself. As they were so well made, they have been able to withstand the ravages of time with many looking as good as new with a little restoration work done on them. Antiques are usually quite expensive, however, and they do not always fall within people’s decorating budgets. An alternative is to look into buying an antique replica desk. They are often much less expensive yet still carry the antique air and look.
Contemporary writings desks are usually fairly small and compact. They still have drawers set in the desk, but usually the wood that the desk is made from is thinner and the design more fine. There are more options with contemporary writing desks also and they are now made from a variety of different material. Many modern writing desks make allowances for you to work on a computer, as they will often have space for a keyboard or holes cut into the desk where cords can pass. While most writing desks would not be big enough to accommodate a large desktop computer, a laptop should fit well.
Whether you are looking for a desk to use for working on finances or writing notes, or somewhere you can work on your laptop, a writing desk may be your best choice. They are small, look great and are highly functional.
