Rocking Chairs And Glider Rockers

Categorized: Chairs | No comments

What greater joy is there than to sit in your own rocking chair and let the world pass by. Add a few cushions and discover how good it is to relax in a classic rocker. Rocking chairs of old were built with 2 runners at the base to allow the chair to move. Newer versions do not have the bow shape timber which was prone to squash the toes of those who stood to close to the chair. The newer rocking chairs are usually called gliders but they have a solid wood base which sits firmly on the floor. If such a thing is possible these gliders are even more comfortable and easier to use that the traditional rocking chairs.

Differences

Glider rockers are a newer style than the old rockers. The main difference between glider rocking chairs and regular ones is that the gliders sit firmly on the floor without the risk of harming toes. The seating portion of the glider is the part that moves forwards and backwards. The glider’s movement mechanism is covered by side panels to prevent fingers getting caught.

Users

Expectant mothers (breastfeeding mothers too) find the glider rocking chairs very comforting and the baby is helped to relax by the gentle motion of the chair. The glider is set in motion just like a regular rocking chair by pushing your foot against the floor. Fully padded deluxe gliders are available from Walmart and other suppliers.

Extras

Some new folding chairs come as a version of the rocking chair. Another advancement on the glider rocking chair is the addition of a feature that allows you to move from side to side as well as backwards and forwards, somewhat like an office swivel chair. I have never tried one but I think I will stick with tradition rocking chairs just the same. If you use a glider it does not mean that you are off your rocker.
