Desk Pads – Good Protection for a Desk

Office furniture can be a costly investment, and it is always a good idea to protect all investments so that they will last longer. One way to protect a quality desk is by using desk pads. A pad will cover a portion of the desk, usually the front section where most work is conducted. It can come in a number of sizes, but the larger the desk pad is, the more protection it will afford for the top of a desk.

When a pad is used on a desktop, it will save the desk from being scratched or marred in any way. If any writing is done, the pad will keep ink off of the desk surface. For those who are busy and often eat at their desks, a pad will also keep food from getting onto the surface and staining it. A protective desk pad will also keep nicks from occurring when a knife or some other eating utensil is being used. If the desk pad should get damaged, it can be easily replaced. Not so with the desk.

A desk protection pad can come with or without rails. Rails will keep objects, such as pens, from rolling off of the pad and onto the floor. Rails will also give the pad a more elegant look. Most pads have a felt bottom to further protect the desk and also keep the pad from sliding around on top of the desk. These desk accessories can be very basic or have a more elaborate design. Some pads will be part of a desk set along with a pen and pencil holder, tape dispenser, memo pad holder, letter opener, letter tray and matching waste paper basket. Or the pad can be bought separately. For a very elegant look, a desk pad can be purchased that will have crocodile embossed rails. A pad such as this will make even a simple desk look more attractive and professional.

Prices can vary for desk accessories. Depending on how fancy the desk pad is, some may cost a few hundred dollars. Leather is the material that is used most often in the construction, and different colors are also available. The pad may be all black or have black blotter paper with brown rails. Burgundy is also available. For a very contemporary office, a desk pad can be found that is made out of other materials, such as plastic or vinyl. Some pads are made like a mouse pad, so that anyone using a computer can easily maneuver a mouse on such an accessory.

A desk pad, whether part of a set or just a single item, will make a very nice gift for someone with an office.
