Categorized: Office Accessories | No comments
Taking care of antique desk lamps can increase the life of the items so that they can be enjoyed for a number of years and even decades. Clean the lamps regularly and keep them free of dust, dirt and grime build-up.
The lamps will always acquire dust regardless of where you place them. Whatever your lamp may be made of, the safest and easiest way to remove dust is through wiping the lamp with the use of soft dry cloth. However, if the lamps have already acquired dirt, smudges and stains, there are more specific procedures that can be applied for each type of antique desk lamp.
For lamps that come with glass shades, the shades may be cleaned with the application of mild glass cleaners. Put a small amount of cleaner on a soft clean cloth and wipe the dirt, smudges or stains that are present in the shades. The cleaner must be used only for the glass shades so do not apply it on the base and areas other than the shades. If you do, there could be adverse effects on the condition of the lamps.
As for antique brass desk lamp, there are many homemade cleaning methods that can be applied. The most popular technique requires mixing salt and vinegar, dipping a cloth on the mixture and scrubbing the lamp with the use of cloth. This technique is widely applied in many homes because vinegar and salt are available in the house. Another method of cleaning brass lamp is with the use of lemon and salt. The lemon must be cut, dipped in salt and eventually used to scrub the lamp.
The alabaster antique desk lamp can be easily maintained through regular dusting with the use of soft untreated cloth. Never apply soft wax and oil polish on alabaster lamps because they can cause discoloration. Commercial cleaning products applicable to marble can be effectively used on alabaster lamps.
Another popular antique lamp model is one that is made from bronze material and this lamp can be cleaned and maintained with frequent dusting and the use of metal polish. Do not forget to wear hand gloves before you apply metal polish on the lamp. Gently rub the metal polish on the bronze portion with your fingertips and let the polish linger for 3-4 minutes. You can use a detail brush or an old toothbrush to scrub the tight portions of the bronze lamp. After the polish has lingered for 3-4 minutes, wipe off polish residue and dry the bronze lamp using soft cloth.
These are only some of the methods that can be applied in cleaning the different kinds of lamps. Nothing lasts forever but if you take care of your prized belongings like antique desk lamps, you can increase their life and you will be able to enjoy their use for a longer time.
