4 X 6 Envelopes

When one receives a 4-1/8”x9-1/2″ envelope in the mail, they know that their taxes are due, they have just been rejected from a dream college, or that they need to pull out the paper shredder again. Business envelopes simply do not bring out any positive emotions from the receiver at a first glance.

In contrast, the 4×6 envelope is known to contain information of opposite matters. A 4×6 envelope usually means that a niece of nephew just graduated high school, a family member of the house is having a birthday soon, or that a holiday is approaching. Evidently, one can only receive good news inside of a 4×6 lined envelope.

Although the non-traditional sized 4×6 envelopes are slightly more expensive and harder to find than the standard business envelope, the fuss is worth it, if you intend to bring a smile to someone’s face. The size of the envelope is less overwhelming and fits nicely in the average hand, and 4×6 foil envelopes even come in various designs and patterns for different occasions.

These envelopes have many uses such as mailing quaint greeting and thank you cards, holding event tickets or business cards, sending photographs, mailing announcements, and even protecting small, loose items. Some companies create 4×6 vinyl envelopes for heavy-duty jobs that on average go for six dollars for a pack of ten. Paper envelope prices vary according to quality, but the average for a pack of fifty can go for about ten dollars.

Regarding the psychology of envelope size, it is important that if you are sending urgent or important information, that you use a non-traditional envelope size. An over-sized envelope may be used, but these will usually be the cheaper choice. When sorting through mail, the majority of the bulk is made up of business envelopes, which stack nicely on top of each other, thus individually speaking are more likely to go unnoticed. However, a non-traditional sized envelope will stick out of the stack, attracting more attention to the contents of the envelope.

One can use the psychology of envelope size to his or her advantage. It is almost guaranteed that a 4×6 envelope will be opened when received in the mail, in hopes of pleasant news.
